Aerorn

This civilization, raised upon the branches of the World Tree "Irminsul," long sang of peace. But now that song is turning into a groan. For from without, an empire of steel, and from within, fallen brethren, threaten their roots.
The World Tree, and the City Upon Its Branches
The World Tree Irminsul, "projected" onto a wasteland scarred by the great earthquake, is no mere tree. To the elves it is a home, a god, and a mother. The dominant power, the "Ayur tribe," built the sky city "Caelo" upon branches that seem to touch the clouds, and wielding the spirits of wind and water, they achieved a noble civilization.
The life force the World Tree gives off made the barren land fertile. Using the abundant water flowing beneath the tree, the elves cultivated vast farmlands, and gathered the precious herbs and minerals the forest bestowed, enjoying prosperity. They revere nature, yet they do not reject civilization. So long as the forest is not harmed, they coexist with the Automata, and they brought into bloom a unique "Azure Civilization" in which magic and technology are in harmony.
Steel and Fire, the Riven Forest
Peace crumbled before the ambition of Gevitz IV. Armed with "Harmony Dynamics," the army of Gevitz burned the forest and trampled the land as it began its invasion of Aerorn. The magic of the elves was powerful, but Gevitz was a nation mightier than imagination.
Through a humiliating treaty they barely reached a ceasefire, but in the aftermath of the war a terrible hole was bored through the sacred trunk of Irminsul. In their haste the elves had to patch their mother's wound with steel beams and plywood. But a far more dreadful disaster came in silence. As the core of the tree was damaged, no new elf was born any longer.
The Fallen Brethren, Bregedur
Crisis bred division. Some tribes who watched their kin being slaughtered raged at the feeble response of the Ayur tribe. Craving forbidden power, they left the forest and headed for the glaciers of the far north. There they made a pact with the frost-flame dragon "Polaris," and are now called the "Bregedur tribe," a name meaning wildfire. Mad warriors clad in armor made of dragon scales, who chose the power of flame — burning the forest to protect the forest. They have now gained the strength to fight Gevitz on equal terms, yet at the same time they have become another threat that drives Aerorn into terror.
The Withering World Tree, and the Last Hope
In the year 510 of the New Age, Aerorn now stands at the edge of a cliff. From without, the rearmed Kingdom of Gevitz; from within, the Bregedur tribe seeking to reclaim the World Tree — both turn their blades upon it.
The despairing truth conveyed by the last child to be born, the blind girl "Piper Eres," fell the entire forest into silence: that the heart of the World Tree is dying.
To cling to the withering roots and perish together with a glorious past, or to abandon the dead mother and set out into an unknown world in search of a new World Tree's seed. It is cruel, but the time to choose now draws near.
